1. What we collect

• Account data: if you register, we store your email address, display name, and a salted hash of your password. We never store plaintext passwords.
• Votes: we store your vote (up/down), a salted hash of your IP address for abuse prevention, and — if you are logged out — a random browser fingerprint ID so you can change your vote later. We do not store your raw IP address.
• Comments: comment text, an optional name, and a salted IP hash for spam control.
• Email subscriptions: your email address and a unique unsubscribe token.
• Usage data: entry view counters and aggregate vote counts.

2. What we do NOT do

• No third-party analytics trackers.
• No advertising cookies (ad slots are placeholders).
• No sale or rental of personal data, ever.

3. How we use data

• To run core features: voting, comments, leaderboards, the daily email you explicitly subscribed to.
• To fight abuse: rate limiting, brigading detection, spam and profanity filtering.
• To email you: only the daily word email you subscribed to, plus one confirmation message. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

4. Cookies and storage

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in, and your browser's local storage holds your anonymous voting fingerprint and theme preference. That's all.

5. Third parties

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google may see your IP address when visiting. Google OAuth sign-in, if enabled, is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Data retention and deletion

Vote and comment IP hashes are kept only as long as needed for abuse prevention. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time via the contact on our DMCA page.

7. Children

The Site is intended for users 13+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
